Jon Stewart’s post-9/11 monologue

You can either read or watch this monologue from the first daily show after 9/11. It’s worth checking out, but be prepared not to laugh.

I promise I won’t fill the rest of my posts with Jon Stewart :)

Jon Stewart destroyed the show “Crossfire” while on Crossfire. Check this out. It’s 13 minutes long, but well worth it.

pastemusic.com: radio

First of all, Paste Music magazine is perhaps the greatest music mag around… The premise of the mag is good music, regardless of genre. That said, the link below is full of free, legal mp3s that are awesome:

George W Bush’s intelligence

A couple things to check out (thanks Zach). First on the plate is a video regarding Bush’s intelligence. As I have guessed at before, he is indeed intelligent:

Bush Over Ten Years.

This video makes some odd suggestions regarding his “change.” My initial thought was that since most americans are not as intelligent as Bush is (ie probably havent graduated from yale & harvard), by making himself seem less intelligent, he thus makes himself more personable/relatable to the average american?

My friend JP mentioned, “Of course, the thing that this completely ignores is the effect of stress on cognitive functioning.” Note how much Bush has aged over the last four years. Alas.

Now for the second round:

C-SPAN Special on the Bush & Kerry Debating Styles

Check this out…for an interesting view on forcing democracy on countries (I’m not saying now whether I agree or disagree with what has happened), fast forward to a little before the 7-minute mark.

Back in Winston…

I just returned from travelling to Boston and Providence, and thus will not post a very long post, but i wanted to post a couple things. First off, I rediscovered the beauty of a record store! They have them in boston! imagine that. Anyways, I purchased some very quality albums while there, in no particular order:

mono – walking cloud & deep red sky flag fluttered and the sun shined

john coltrane – my favorite things

van morrison – moondance

sondre lerche – don’t be shallow ep

and here are some highlights from the rolling stone that i thought were funny/amusing in some way:

buddy nielsen, singer for senses fail (a new pop punk “sensation”): “i read this essay on existentialism, and i’m just confused. … i tried to read plato’s republic because i’m like, ‘i gotta read this — it’s a classic’.”

trey parker, creator of new movie, team america: world police: “if anyone walks out of this movie, or a michael moore movie, thinking about voting a different way, then they’re fucking stupid and shouldn’t be voting. … If this movie makes you think that much, you’re too weak-kneed to vote.”

and, regarding p diddy’s ‘vote or die’ campaign: “‘I think just saying ‘Vote or Die’ is a serious danger to democracy,’ Stone says, as Parker breaks into a Cartman-esque voice for a mocking public-service message: ‘Hey, nineteen-year-old who doesn’t know anything — you choose.’ ‘If you don’t know what you’re talking about, there’s no shame in not voting,’ Stone says finally. ‘They say if you don’t vote, you can’t bitch. But you can bitch all you want. This is America.’”

And finally, thanks to Melissa, we can all check out:

Wake Forest Children’s Book “A Season with The Deacon”, only on ebay :)

anyways, that’s all for now. i think i’ll post a review of the mono album sometime soon..it sounds incredible so far.

Dick Cheney mentioned this site in the VP Debates Tuesday nite. It’s pretty cool, and appears to be completely non-partisan. let me know if you find out otherwise
