the currency, not me…
apparently the tolar’s going to be replaced by the euro as the national form of currency as of january 2007.
bah! if there are any slovenian readers out there…would you mind sending me some tolars?
Well, not until the end of 2007…but it’s still a sad day. This letter was sent to their listserv & posted on nickelcreek.com today:
Dearest Listener,
After seven years of extensive touring in support of three records (seventeen years as a band), we’ve decided to take a break of indefinite length at the end of 2007 to preserve the environment we’ve sought so hard to create and to pursue other interests. It has been a pleasure to write, record, and perform for you through the years and we’d like to heartily thank you for your invaluable contribution to our musical lives.
Yours,
Nickel Creek
(Sean, Sara, and Chris)
I don’t really expect any of them to be as great in their solo projects as they have been as a cohesive group…especially given the solo records to date. I saw them tear the roof off of the Stevens Center in 2001 and again at the Fox Theatre in 2005 [along with a couple less than spectacular performances in between ... i blame the crowd]. I’m sad to see this amazing collaboration come to an end.
RIP Nickel Creek, 2000-2007
[only counting their careers from their self-titled release on ... basically their departure from being kids into being artists]

Did these people ever speak to anyone who lives in Atlanta? Or even anyone who had once visited Atlanta? Last week, they pronounced Chamblee with a french accent. Trust me, there are no cities, towns, streets, or buildings in Atlanta that are spoken with a french accent. No offense meant to the french — it’s just not how we speak in Atlanta.
This week, they referred to the senator as living in “Buckhead, Georgia.” Buckhead is *not* a city in georgia. It’s a neighborhood in Atlanta.
silly fox…tricks are for kids!
::update 1::
They are now referring to i-20 as “the 20.” Clearly, the writers have never left LA…
::update 2::
Noone told Fox that Underground Atlanta was a euphamism for a crappy, open-air mall, as opposed to a whole city underneath us.
::update 3::
i love that the flashback scenes to 1994 were defined by blind melon’s “no rain” & the spin doctors’s “two princes.” at least the music director knows what (s)he’s doing..
You heard it hear first, folks. The fannypack is the new messenger bag.
Now go off & tell the masses!
love,
tolar
greetings folks! there are much good shows in september … i wanted to tell you all about them…first, the highlights:
sep 10 – the selmanaires @ park tavern. free! …great atlanta band.
sep 17 – regina spektor @ park tavern. free! this lady is simply amazing. i think she’s defining a new genre .. “acoustic dance”
sep 20 – sufjan stevens @ fox theatre. omgwtfbbq. time for some interpretive dancing.
sep 22 – CSS @ variety. brazilian indie dance music — hot single “lets make love & listen to death from above”. if you’re not shaking your ass, there’s something seriously wrong with you.
sep 24 – beirut @ variety. indie rock meets gypsy music. they could get big real fast, so if you’re shallow, you can come for the “i knew them when” factor. if you like good music, you’ll be pleasantly amazed.
others….
sep 1 – the judies @ the 10 high. small atlanta band, but solid.
sep 1 – jean luc ponty @ variety. jazz/classical violinist. saw him last year with bela fleck & stanley clark.
sep 4 – the black lips @ drunken unicorn. ‘post punk’ atlanta band, but whatever…fucking great
sep 9 – cary ann hearst @ masquerade. don’t let the venue fool you. she’s country/rockability at its best.
sep 12 – cat power @ variety. once unsure of herself, she’s gained confidence in her last album. this show should be good.
sep 14 – danielle howle @ eddies attic. one of my personal favorites – though she seems not to catch on with my friends thus far
she’s a lovely singer/songwriter that tells stories through song.
sep 16 – Y-O-U @ aurora coffee (n highland). decent atlanta pop group that’s done work with the chapman bros (of homestarrunner.com fame)
sep 16 – jay clifford @ eddies attic. former frontman of south carolina art/pop group jump, little children. doing a solo thing, but amanda k of tin cup prophette will probably make an appearance.
sep 18 – enon @ drunken unicorn. word.
sep 19 – art brut @ the roxy. i didnt understand them until i saw them at the drunken unicorn a few months ago. surprisingly most excellent in a weird sort of way.
sep 19 – the raconteurs @ the tabernacle. white stripes’ jack white’s latest project.
sep 22 – architecture in helsinki @ the 40 watt. great pop band from down under.
sep 30 – the queers @ the drunken unicorn. great punk band. should be a good show.
i’ll probably be at most of these shows ….. trey will be at most too…. we’d love to have you join us
of course, every friday … decatur social club …
have a lovely saturday, friends!
love
tolar
