So I was sitting around discussing music with a friend of mine (we’ll call him “JB”). When we got to the subject of They Might Be Giants, I discovered he did not like Mink Car, while I consider it very possibly their best album.
The album starts off with Bangs, a glorious tribute to the “proscenium to stage a face that needs no makeup.”
My next favorite song is one that whenever I play it at a party, people are curious as to who it is & are stunned when they discover it’s They Might Be Giants: Man It’s So Loud In Here. This one proves that TMBG can make your booty shake with the best of them. It’s all about turning everything into a night club, including an airport: “Everyone’s excited & confused.”
The last song I will mention here is Another First Kiss.
I hope this gives you a little taste of the awesomeness that is Mink Car by They Might Be Giants. Head to your favorite local music retailer & pick it up, or if you’re feeling a touch lazy, surf on the information super highway over to Amazon
Enjoy!

So I just caught Adem at the Loft. It’s a semi-interesting story, to me at least, so I’ll recount it here. It starts off with a long, stressful day at work. I needed a few minutes away, so I ran down the street to Octane to grab a hummus wrap & coffee (mmmmm delicious). While waiting for the wrap, I notice a flyer on the wall: Badly Drawn Boy was playing the Loft & Adem was opening! I didn’t know too much about the headliner, but I had caught Adem open up a show in Boston while visiting my friend Giorgi a couple years ago. I enjoyed his set, and later fell in love with Homesongs. Fast forward to March 14, 2007. So the doors were at 8p & show at 9p. I get out of work at 9p, not having eaten anything since that hummus wrap around 1:30p.. I find one of my super secret free parking spaces near the Loft & enter in the venue during his second song. Unfortunately, he only played a few more (including a pretty nice cover of the beach boys’ “god only knows”), but it was entirely worth it.
Adem – These Are Your Friends
Adem – Ringing in My Ear
Whenever I go see an opening band I really like & I’m not too familiar with the headliner, I generally give them a couple songs to convince me to stay for the rest of the set. Granted, Badly Drawn Boy also had the fact that I was starving going against ‘em. So after two songs, I ducked out of there & got some grub.
that about wraps up my day!
until we meet again,

Adem – God Only Knows [beach boys]
So i know they already broken up, but I wanted to share this song, cuz i think it’s good. isn’t that enough?
I’ve just returned from a talk on Unity08, a new political party of sorts that aims to exist for a single presidential race. Their basic purpose is to have a national primary in 2008 [as opposed to individual state primaries] that will be available to all registered voters of any party affiliation. Then, that candidate will be placed on every state’s general presidential election ballot in 2008. The ticket will consist of a vice president and president from different parties.
Essentially, they’re trying to create a coalition government from within the White House itself. By having a president nominated by a wider body of people and having a vice president from a different party, the hope is to initiate compromise and unity and reject the continued polarization of the United States of America.
The best thing they have going for Unity08 is that you have nothing to lose by participating in their primary. It’s just another way to get someone you want to be president nominated & on the ticket. You can then choose to vote for whichever ticket you want.
What do you think? You think this whole crazy thing might work? They have people with experience in the political machine, a decent amount of money so far, and plans to raise enough money to make it work…
That time of the year again .. if you want to enter in the AJC’s Final Four Fiasco, then click here.
You can play the NCAA tournament AND see what kind of software I develop! yay!
