Rosebud – Live at Go! Room 4, February 13, 2002

Rosebud is one of my long time, favorite bands. They are officially the cast-aside side project of the indefinitely broken up Jump, Little Children. The brainchild of Jay Clifford, Rosebud also features the lovely Tin Cup Prophette [Amanda Kapousouz] on fiddle, the prolific Michael Bellar on piano, and fellow Jump bandmates Jonathan on bass & Evan Bivins on drums [though Les Hall plays piano at this show].

This is a show that Rosebud played at the now defunct Go! Room 4 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina close to six years ago. This venue was downright beautiful, even it was tiny. Little did we know that it might be the last time we saw the band or the club again. They played a few shows in support of their then new album, Vespers, and we’ve had nothing since. We then lost Jump, Little Children a couple years later.

I recorded this on my sony minidisc recorder from the audience — my apologies for the camera clicks in the background! I hope you enjoy.

I’ve got some other shows I may throw up here at some point, if anyone’s interested in checking ‘em out…but I thought this one was especially interesting, as Rosebud hasn’t played too many shows [at least that i'm aware of].

I took a 3d animation class in college, and I was inspired by Rosebud’s Beautiful Moment. Here’s a little ‘music video’ i made:

Black Kids

So I should’ve paid more attention to Cable&Tweed back several months ago when he sent over an EP of this new band called The Black Kids. Alas, I’ve been missing out all this time! It’s finally caught my ear, and frankly, I heart them. Apart from the frikkin awesome title of “I’m not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance”, it’s downright danceable.

Better late than never .. check ‘em out if you haven’t!
