“Who is a customer? The customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption of our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business, he is part of it. We are not doing him a favour by serving him. He is doing us a favour by giving us an opportunity to do so.”
-Mahatma Gandhi, as found in The Economist

a special message from Tova Rinah:

Hello!

This is Tova Rinah. I am recording a new album. Many of you will remember when I played with the former members of the Way Home, how we pre-sold albums to raise the money for the very expensive studio costs. Well, the new Way Home line-up and myself are pre-selling albums again, but this time it is for a full-length album that is ready to go! It has a name, an order for the songs, many creative musical ideas waiting to come to life and a calendar date set from mid-May to mid-June with a very talented producer named Mike Odmark in Nashville. Last time, with the pre-selling and fund raising, we were able to put a pay-pal link with the information up on our MySpace account. Pay-Pal is not presently allowing for links on MySpace.
If any of you are interested in pre-buying an album to help raise funds for the record, all you have to do is go to www. paypal. com.
You do not need a pay-pal account to use it. You’d go to Send Money and type in my email address, tova.rinah@gmail.com. I am asking $15 for this upcoming full-length album. Also, if you choose to pre-buy an album, please include your email address and shipping address. This information is important, so I can get a copy of the album to you when they are pressed and packaged and ready to go!!! They should be ready by late Summer/early Fall. I appreciate any one who is inclined to support this musical endeavor. Did you know that a well-done full-length album from start to finish can cost the same as a down-payment on a home? Well, I have been able to save a good deal towards the record expenses but I am still in need of anyone who is willing to come along side and help make this album a reality by pre-buying.

Thank you very, very much!
Sincerely,
Tova

So it’s finally happened. Through the efforts of WAKE Radio students, alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and other various & sundry folks, student radio is finally returning to WFDD this Thursday! You’ll be able to pick it up online or via hd3 on 88.5-3 FM in the greater Triad area [north carolina]. If you don’t know, this is terribly exciting for me and everyone that’s tried to get wake radio back on the air! I applaud the administration at Wake Forest University and the wonderful staff of WFDD, along with the tireless advisors of WAKE Radio over the years! We’ve finally done it :)

I thought this might be appropriate/nostalgic/whatever. here’s a show i did senior year of college with miss sara fauske lamback [in march 2004]. it’s called “deaconlight: resurrected,” in honor of deaconlight from wfdd. the track’s are all askew — some are 2 minutes long, some are 19 minutes long. altogether, it’s roughly an hour. i hope you enjoy

press release:

Winston-Salem, NC — 88.5 WFDD, the Piedmont Triad’s public radio station, announced that it will officially launch its third digital channel, WFDD-3, featuring an eclectic blend of roots, traditional, folk, world music, and the best of college and indie rock from WAKE Radio, on Thursday, April 3, 2008.

Weekday programming on WFDD-3 will include a daily dose of indie rock, singer-songwriters, folk, alternative country, blues, and world music from NPR’s World Café; the best in locally produced college radio from WFU student run WAKE Radio; and a nightly, nicely chilled plate of ambient beats and grooves on Groove Salad. On the weekends, WFDD-3 will feature the best of singer/songwriter, Celtic, acoustic, Americana, traditional, and world sounds from Folk Alley; local performances from the Triad folk music organization The Fiddle and Bow Society; a Sunday rebroadcast of NPR’s weekly Celtic music showcase The Thistle and Shamrock; and weekly, relaxed live performances from some of the world’s greatest artists on Mountain Stage from Public Radio International.

More than 1,500 radio stations nationwide are broadcasting with HD Radio technology and more than 700 of those stations are offering multicast channels, as WFDD does. There is no subscription fee for HD Radio, but listeners will need an HD Radio to hear the digital broadcasts. Many area retailers are now stocking a variety of HD Radios and dozens of HD Radio models, for home and car use, are available online. Listeners without HD Radios can continue to listen the current programming as usual, or can stream the digital channels from the station’s website, wfdd.org. HD Radio is a copyrighted term owned by iBiquity Digital Corporation.

WFDD previously launched WFDD-2, which includes the classical music showcase Performance Today, opera performances every Saturday, including the Metropolitan Opera, and area symphony and choral music performances.

General Manager Denise Franklin stated that, “HD Radio is the future. With WFDD-3 we are able to provide programming that is simply not available over the air in the Triad. Adding this eclectic mix of music to our programming offerings allows us to give listeners something we know they are looking for.”

88.5 WFDD, the NPR® News and Triad Arts Station broadcasting from Wake Forest University, is the only public radio station of its kind located in the Piedmont Triad. It broadcasts news, information, and public affairs programming covering the arts, people, and institutions in the area from both its Winston-Salem and Greensboro studios. The state’s charter NPR® member, 88.5 WFDD is the longest continuously broadcasting public radio station in North Carolina. It is a member of the North Carolina Public Radio Association.

I emailed Blockbuster a few years ago about something or another and received the following response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize that we cannot be of more help to you, but we currently have no information regarding when the movie “[INSERT MOVIE TITLE]” will be released on video.

Your satisfaction is our top priority. If you have any questions or would like to speak to a Customer Care Representative, send us an email at customercare@shop.blockbuster.com or calls us at 1-800-441-4736.

Sincerely,
Blockbuster.Com Customer Care

So there’s the first obvious problem of “[INSERT MOVIE TITLE]“, but there’s also the grammatical error of “…or calls us at…”.

silly blockbuster… and you wonder why i’ve left you for netflix!

love,
tolar
